Substance Abuse
CJC 7016
This course is a study of substance abuse in our society. Topics include the history and classifications of drug abuse and the social, physical, and psychological impact of drug abuse. Upon completion, students should be able to identify various types of drugs, their effects on human behavior and society, and treatment modalities. This is a HyFlex course. Class will meet face-to-face two days per week and be streamed on Zoom. Course is also delivered online. Students can choose which way they would like to attend class. Prepayment of tuition and purchase of course materials are required.

Welding: Basic MIG
WLD 7011
This 108-hour program introduces gas metal arc welding and flux core arc welding processes. Topics include equipment set up and fillet and groove weld with emphasis on application of GMAW and FCAW electrodes on steel plate, as well as basic welding measurement and print reading. Upon completion, students will have the knowledge base to seek employment as entry level MIG welders. This course also prepares students to continue into the RCC Welding Technology certificate and diploma programs, with possible articulation upon successful completion and approved articulation application process.
Required Supplies: Welding helmet, variable shade level 10+, welding gloves, welding jacket or long sleeve cotton button up shirt, leather boots (steel toe not required), cotton pants (i.e. jeans), cotton welding cap (optional)

Welding: GTAW (tig) Plate
WLD 7008
This course introduces the gas tungsten arc (TIG) welding process. Topics include correct selection of tungsten, polarity, gas, and proper filler rod with emphasis placed on safety, equipment setup, and welding techniques. Upon completion, students should be able to perform GTAW fillet and groove welds with various electrodes and filler materials.

Windows 11 Fundamentals
OST 7143
This course introduces students to the new Windows 11 operating system. Students will learn topics such as how to get started, customize Windows settings, manage files and folders, use and download apps, install devices, complete a system back up, and more. The class will also focus on key differences between Windows 10 and Windows 11. This course is instructor-led and delivered on campus. Prepayment of tuition is required.

Woodworking – Advanced: Fine Points of Furniture Construction
PRC 7127
Prerequisite: PRC 7100
Learn the heritage art of woodworking at an advanced level. Coursework includes discussion on the history, trends, and practice of the art and information to build and supply appropriate studios. Upon completion, students will be prepared to either advance to a higher skill level or to fabricate and market their goods. Safety equipment is required (safety glasses, hearing protection, etc.). Students need wood for projects, which they learned about in the pre-requisite Fundamentals of Woodworking course. Wood obtained from anywhere other than the CCWW must be inspected and approved by the instructor. A $30 supply fee is included in the cost of the class to cover wear and tear on machinery, and basic supplies (i.e. glue).

Woodworking – Fundamentals
PRC 7100
Learn the heritage art of woodworking at the introductory level. Course work includes discussion on history and trends, practice, and information to build and supply appropriate studios. Upon completion, participants will be prepared to either advance to a higher skill level or to fabricate and market their goods. Discussion is held at the beginning of class about what types of wood will work best for each student’s project and guidance is provided about obtaining wood. The quantity and purchase amount will vary per student and per project. The Center for Creative Woodworking (CCWW) has poplar wood for purchase. If students prefer wood other than poplar, it may be purchased elsewhere. Please call the instructor at 336-394-4718 for recommendations. Some students prefer to bring in wood from other sources. Neither Rockingham Community College staff nor the CCWW staff will cut down trees or retrieve fallen wood from private community members. Wood obtained from anywhere other than the CCWW must be inspected and approved by the instructor. Students must provide safety glasses and hearing protection.
