Nurse Aide I

This program is designed to prepare graduates to provide personal care and perform basic nursing skills for the elderly and other adults. Emphasis on aging process including mental, social and physical needs of the elderly, patients’ rights, nutrition management, elimination procedures, safe environment, restorative services, personal and special care procedures and activities, human body structure and function and related common disease/disorders, communication and documentation, death and dying, and roles of the nursing assistant and health team members. A skill/competency evaluation is required. The course includes class, laboratory and clinical learning experiences. Upon satisfactory completion of the course and skill/competency evaluation, the graduate is eligible to apply for listing as a Certified Nurse Aide l by the N.C. Division of Facility Services.

Old Forgotten Truck and Barn

Capturing the scenes as they are is so important–as important as the process of learning art and painting. You are capturing things that won’t exist one day because they are forgotten, and we as artists see the beauty in that and can produce a timeless work of art. Some drawing beforehand will be taught as well as composition and small details.

Payroll Accounting

ACC 7112

This course covers federal and state laws pertaining to wages, payroll taxes, payroll tax forms, and journal and general ledger transactions. Emphasis is placed on computing wages; calculating Social Security, income, and unemployment taxes; preparing appropriate payroll tax forms; and journalizing/posting transactions. Upon completion, students should be able to analyze data, make appropriate computations, complete forms, and prepare accounting entries using appropriate technology. This course is instructor-led and delivered online. Prepayment of tuition is required.

Pharmacy Technician

This training program provides instruction in the technical procedures for preparing and dispensing drugs in the hospital and retail settings under supervision of a registered pharmacist. Topics include drug packaging and labeling, out-patient dispensing, hospital dispensing procedures, controlled substance procedures, inventory control, and non-sterile compounding. Students will automatically be enrolled in a required 4-hour Technology Awareness course prior to the start of the course. Upon completion, students should be prepared to perform basic supervised dispensing techniques in a variety of pharmacy settings. The student will be eligible to apply for the Pharmacy Technician Certification Exam (PTCE). The PTCE exam must be taken at a Pearson VUE professional testing center, which is available at RCC. The cost for the certification exam is approximately $130. Course prerequisite: Math pretest.

Phlebotomy Experience

The Phlebotomy program is designed to provide the theory and clinical experiences needed for the proper collection of blood and other specimens used for diagnostic testing. Emphasis is places on ethics, legalities, medical terminology, safety and universal precautions, health care delivery systems, patient relations, anatomy and physiology, and specimen collection. Students will be able to safely perform procedures necessary for specimen collections on patients in various health care settings. Students successfully completing the program receive certificates and will be eligible for national certification as phlebotomy technicians.

Pottery: Exploring Clay

CSP 7766

Learn how to design and make pottery using the potter’s wheel and various hand-building techniques. This 24-hour course is open to all levels and will focus on individual instruction. Beginners in clay will leave with a solid foundation and understanding of working in a cooperative pottery studio and more advanced makers will be able to focus in and further develop their ideas. Clay, glaze materials and firings will be provided.

QuickBooks for Beginners

ACC 7120

Learn the basic financial principles and procedures needed to manage a small to mid-size business utilizing the accounting software program, QuickBooks. This course is intended for those who are new to QuickBooks as well as those who have utilized earlier versions.

  • Class will meet face-to-face one night a week and a portion of the coursework will be delivered online. Prepayment of tuition and purchase of course materials are required.

Resume Writing and Interviews

HRD 3001

Students are led through the process of writing a resume, understanding how to revise resumes and use cover letters, as well as how to organize a job search, use resources to create leads, and interview with confidence. Class fees waived for the unemployed and those who meet economic guidelines.

Safe Driving

Substance Abuse

CJC 7016

This course is a study of substance abuse in our society. Topics include the history and classifications of drug abuse and the social, physical, and psychological impact of drug abuse. Upon completion, students should be able to identify various types of drugs, their effects on human behavior and society, and treatment modalities. This is a HyFlex course. Class will meet face-to-face two days per week and be streamed on Zoom. Course is also delivered online. Students can choose which way they would like to attend class. Prepayment of tuition and purchase of course materials are required.

Welding: Basic MIG

WLD 7011

This 108-hour program introduces gas metal arc welding and flux core arc welding processes. Topics include equipment set up and fillet and groove weld with emphasis on application of GMAW and FCAW electrodes on steel plate, as well as basic welding measurement and print reading. Upon completion, students will have the knowledge base to seek employment as entry level MIG welders. This course also prepares students to continue into the RCC Welding Technology certificate and diploma programs, with possible articulation upon successful completion and approved articulation application process.

Required Supplies: Welding helmet, variable shade level 10+, welding gloves, welding jacket or long sleeve cotton button up shirt, leather boots (steel toe not required), cotton pants (i.e. jeans), cotton welding cap (optional)

This course introduces basic welding and cutting. Emphasis is place on beads applied with gases, mild steel fillers, and electrodes and the capillary action of solder. Upon completion, students should be able to set up welding and oxy-fuel equipment and perform welding, brazing and soldering processes.

Topics include correct selection of tungsten, polarity, gas, and proper filler rod with emphasis placed on safety, equipment setup, and welding techniques. Windows 11 Fundamentals

This course introduces students to the new Windows 11 operating system. Students will learn topics such as how to get started, customize Windows settings, manage files and folders, use and download apps, install devices, complete a system back up, and more. The class will also focus on key differences between Windows 10 and Windows 11. This course is instructor-led and delivered on campus. Prepayment of tuition is required.

Woodworking – Advanced: Fine Points of Furniture Construction

Learn the heritage art of woodworking at an advanced level. Coursework includes discussion on the history, trends, and practice of the art and information to build and supply appropriate studios. Upon completion, students will be prepared to either advance to a higher skill level or to fabricate and market their goods. Safety equipment is required (safety glasses, hearing protection, etc.). Students need wood for projects, which they learned about in the pre-requisite Fundamentals of Woodworking course. Wood obtained from anywhere other than the CCWW must be inspected and approved by the instructor. A $30 supply fee is included in the cost of the class to cover wear and tear on machinery, and basic supplies (i.e. glue).

Classes are held at the Center for Construction Trades and Woodworking (CCTW) located at 333 South Scales Street in Reidsville.

Woodworking – Fundamentals

PRC 7100

Learn the heritage art of woodworking at the introductory level. Course work includes discussion on history and trends, practice, and information to build and supply appropriate studios. Upon completion, participants will be prepared to either advance to a higher skill level or to fabricate and market their goods. Discussion is held at the beginning of class about what types of wood will work best for each student’s project and guidance is provided about obtaining wood. The quantity and purchase amount will vary per student and per project. The Center for Creative Woodworking (CCWW) has poplar wood for purchase. If students prefer wood other than poplar, it may be purchased elsewhere. Please call the instructor at 336-394-4718 for recommendations. Some students prefer to bring in wood from other sources. Neither Rockingham Community College staff nor the CCWW staff will cut down trees or retrieve fallen wood from private community members. Wood obtained from anywhere other than the CCWW must be inspected and approved by the instructor. Students must provide safety glasses and hearing protection. A $30 supply fee is included in the cost of this class to cover wear and tear on machinery and basic supplies (i.e. glue).
