Welding: Basic MIG

WLD 7011

This 108-hour program introduces gas metal arc welding and flux core arc welding processes. Topics include equipment set up and fillet and groove weld with emphasis on application of GMAW and FCAW electrodes on steel plate, as well as basic welding measurement and print reading. Upon completion, students will have the knowledge base to seek employment as entry level MIG welders. This course also prepares students to continue into the RCC Welding Technology certificate and diploma programs, with possible articulation upon successful completion and approved articulation application process.

Required Supplies: Welding helmet, variable shade level 10+, welding gloves, welding jacket or long sleeve cotton button up shirt, leather boots (steel toe not required), cotton pants (i.e. jeans), cotton welding cap (optional)

Welding: Basic Processes

WLD 7000
This course introduces basic welding and cutting. Emphasis is place on beads applied with gases, mild steel fillers, and electrodes and the capillary action of solder. Upon completion, students should be able to set up welding and oxy-fuel equipment and perform welding, brazing and soldering processes.

Required Supplies: Welding helmet, variable shade level 10+, welding gloves, welding jacket or long sleeve cotton button up shirt, leather boots (steel toe not required), cotton pants (i.e. jeans), cotton welding cap (optional)

Welding: GTAW (tig) Plate

WLD 7008

This course introduces the gas tungsten arc (TIG) welding process. Topics include correct selection of tungsten, polarity, gas, and proper filler rod with emphasis placed on safety, equipment setup, and welding techniques. Upon completion, students should be able to perform GTAW fillet and groove welds with various electrodes and filler materials.
