Integrated Pest Management
AGR 7003
Integrated Pest Management introduces students to the principles and practices of environmentally responsible pest control through a systems-based approach that emphasizes pest identification, monitoring, threshold-based decision-making, and the integration of cultural, biological, mechanical, and chemical control methods. Students learn to diagnose pest problems, evaluate ecological and economic impacts, and design effective IPM strategies that prioritize sustainability, regulatory compliance, and safety across agricultural, greenhouse, landscape, and urban environments. The course prepares learners to develop comprehensive management plans that reduce environmental risk, support long-term ecosystem health, and promote efficient, science-based pest management solutions. Students are encouraged to bring gloves to class. This course will be instructor-led and delivered on campus. Prepayment of tuition is required.

Intro to Early Childhood Education

Intro to Early Childhood Education (EDU 3119) is a new short-term (8-week) continuing education offering designed to prepare students to work in a childcare facility. Students learn how to design developmentally appropriate and inclusive lesson plans and activities for young children in alignment with NC Foundations for Early Learning and Development and state regulations. At the end of the course, students will have obtained a qualifying letter which provides eligibility for employment in a childcare facility. The course articulates to a curriculum program course for students who wish to pursue a certificate or associate degree in Early Childhood Education.

Introduction to Family Tree Maker
OST 7144
In this course, students will learn to research and record their ancestors and descendants utilizing the Family Tree Maker software, scan and enter their photos, and produce genealogy charts and reports. They will also learn to manage facts and sources, add other media, and sync to ancestry.com. Upon completion, students will be able to take the knowledge gained and continue to expand their family trees within Family Tree Maker. They will also be able to produce a simple family history book. This course is a necessity for those wishing to document their families and preserve them for future generations. In addition, this course is beneficial to those employed in or wishing to pursue a career in genealogy services. The course is instructor-led and delivered in person on campus. Prepayment of tuition is required. Students should bring a flash drive with 16GB or more of storage space.
Students must possess basic computer knowledge and be comfortable performing basic computer operations in Windows.

Juvenile Justice

Land and Garden Preparation
AGR 7006
This class focuses on preparing landscapes, greenhouses, and gardens for the growing season. Students will explore soil health, turf management, water quality, fertilization practices, and nutrient management. The course also covers garden bed preparation and construction, along with effective planning strategies for successful garden development. Additionally, students will be introduced to key concepts in agronomy, entomology, plant pathology, and horticulture. This course is instructor-led and delivered on campus in the Horticulture Building. Prepayment of tuition is required.

Manicurist
COS 3101
This comprehensive course provides instruction and clinical practice in manicuring, nail building (application and maintenance of artificial nails), and pedicuring. Course content includes nail anatomy, disorders of nails, and irregularities of nails; theory and salesmanship as it relates to manicuring; actual practice in manicuring; and arm, hand, and foot massage. Manicurist students must complete 300 hours in an approved beauty school or college before applying to the State Board of Cosmetic Arts for examination. Students enrolled only in manicuring shall only perform services directly relating to the prescribed course in manicuring.
In addition to tuition, cosmetology students are required to purchase text books and a Cosmetology Kit $900. Students must also purchase two sets of solid Navy-Blue scrub uniforms at an estimated cost of $35 each, and malpractice insurance at $32 per year.
Please note: this is a comprehensive course to provide training for those interested in becoming registered manicurists only and not desiring to become licensed cosmetologists.

Medical Assisting
This program provides skills training in three competency areas related to the job performance for medical assistants: administrative office, laboratory, and clinical. Course work includes instruction in scheduling appointments, insurance coding and billing, medical transcription, computer operations, assisting with examinations/treatments, performing routine laboratory procedures, and ethical/legal issues associated with patient care. Students will automatically be enrolled in a required 4-hour Technology Awareness course prior to the start of the course. Students will be required to complete 40 clinical hours. Upon completion, students will have the knowledge base to apply for national certification for Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA).

Topics include medical vocabulary and the terms that relate to the anatomy, physiology, pathological conditions, and treatment of selected systems. Medication Aide
This course is designed to meet the training requirements for becoming qualified as a Medication Aide. The course covers the six rights of medication administration for non-licensed personnel. Topics include medication administration via the oral, topical and instillation routes, medical asepsis, hand hygiene, terminology, and legal implications. Upon completion, students should be able to take the competency exam and demonstrate skills necessary to qualify for listing on the North Carolina Medication Aide Registry.

This course introduces students to the basic skills needed to use the Microsoft Excel spreadsheet software on the job or at home. Topics include basic functions of the software, functions and formulas, printing, basic charts, and other related topics. Only basic computer knowledge is necessary; no prior Excel knowledge is required. This course is instructor-led and delivered on campus. Prepayment of tuition is required.

This course is intended to equip students with the skills needed to confidently utilize Word, Excel, and PowerPoint on the job or at home. Topics cover basic functions of each software package, mail merge, pivot tables, and other business uses. In addition, students will obtain the knowledge necessary to prepare for the Microsoft Office Specialist Word, Excel, and PowerPoint certification exams. This is a bundled course and is instructor-led and delivered in a hybrid format on campus and online. Prepayment of tuition is required. Natural Hair Care Specialist
COS 3104
This 300-hour program is designed to teach styling techniques such as BRAIDING, TWISTING, EXTENDING AND LOCKING NATURAL HAIR without the use of chemicals such as perms/relaxers and hair color. After completing the course, the students will be able to sit for the North Carolina State Board of Cosmetic Arts Exam to become a licensed Natural Hair Care Specialist.
The program provides instruction and clinical practice in natural hair care. The course content includes:
- Sanitation
- Bacteriology
- Disinfection
- First Aid
- Shampooing
- Draping
- Anatomy
- Disorders of the hair and scalp
- Client consultation
As part of the program students will develop skills during clinic hours.
Natural Hair Care students must complete the required hours and competencies before applying to the State Board of Cosmetic Arts for exam.
In addition to tuition, there is a cost of approximately $800 for a kit and textbooks.
