Introduction to Family Tree Maker

OST 7144

In this course, students will learn to research and record their ancestors and descendants utilizing the Family Tree Maker software, scan and enter their photos, and produce genealogy charts and reports. They will also learn to manage facts and sources, add other media, and sync to ancestry.com. Upon completion, students will be able to take the knowledge gained and continue to expand their family trees within Family Tree Maker. They will also be able to produce a simple family history book. This course is a necessity for those wishing to document their families and preserve them for future generations. In addition, this course is beneficial to those employed in or wishing to pursue a career in genealogy services. The course is instructor-led and delivered in person on campus. Prepayment of tuition is required. Students should bring a flash drive with 16GB or more of storage space.

Students must possess basic computer knowledge and be comfortable performing basic computer operations in Windows.

Microsoft Excel Basics

This course introduces students to the basic skills needed to use the Microsoft Excel spreadsheet software on the job or at home. Topics include basic functions of the software, functions and formulas, printing, basic charts, and other related topics. Only basic computer knowledge is necessary; no prior Excel knowledge is required. This course is instructor-led and delivered on campus. Prepayment of tuition is required.

Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

OST 7133

This course is intended to equip students with the skills needed to confidently utilize Word, Excel, and PowerPoint on the job or at home. Topics cover basic functions of each software package, mail merge, pivot tables, and other business uses. In addition, students will obtain the knowledge necessary to prepare for the Microsoft Office Specialist Word, Excel, and PowerPoint certification exams. This is a bundled course and is instructor-led and delivered in a hybrid format on campus and online. Prepayment of tuition is required. Purchase of course materials (approximately $150) is required during the first class. Registration fees do not include Microsoft certification exam fees.

Notary Public Education

Participants learn the requirements and qualifications of the notary public office. Requirements for attestation, fees, general powers and limitations, certifications, oaths, affirmations and affidavits are taught. NC Notaries must have a high school diploma or GED; must be at least 18 years old; read, write, and speak English; have no felony convictions; and successfully complete this approved notary course.

Additional costs include: commission fee to Secretary of State, $50; swearing in at the courthouse, $10; required textbook purchased from bookstore (cost varies); notary seal (cost varies). Prepayment of tuition and purchase of the Notary Manual prior to class is required.

Please note that your Notary Manual must be purchased from the RCC Bookstore before 3:00 p.m. on the Friday before class begins. If you cannot come to the RCC Bookstore to purchase your book in person, please allow time for the book to be shipped to you from the RCC Bookstore. Additional shipping and handling charges will apply.

Prepayment of tuition and purchase of the Notary manual prior to class is required.

Students must bring their government-issued ID to class.

QuickBooks for Beginners

ACC 7120

Learn the basic financial principles and procedures needed to manage a small to mid-size business utilizing the accounting software program, QuickBooks. This course is intended for those who are new to QuickBooks as well as those who have utilized earlier versions.

  • Class will meet face-to-face one night a week and a portion of the coursework will be delivered online. Prepayment of tuition and purchase of course materials are required.
