Microsoft Excel Basics

This course introduces students to the basic skills needed to use the Microsoft Excel spreadsheet software on the job or at home. Topics include basic functions of the software, functions and formulas, printing, basic charts, and other related topics. Only basic computer knowledge is necessary; no prior Excel knowledge is required. This course is instructor-led and delivered on campus. Prepayment of tuition is required.

Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

OST 7133

This course is intended to equip students with the skills needed to confidently utilize Word, Excel, and PowerPoint on the job or at home. Topics cover basic functions of each software package, mail merge, pivot tables, and other business uses. In addition, students will obtain the knowledge necessary to prepare for the Microsoft Office Specialist Word, Excel, and PowerPoint certification exams. This is a bundled course and is instructor-led and delivered in a hybrid format on campus and online. Prepayment of tuition is required. Purchase of course materials (approximately $150) is required during the first class. Registration fees do not include Microsoft certification exam fees.

Notary Public Education

LEX 3874

Participants learn the requirements and qualifications of the notary public office. Requirements for attestation, fees, general powers and limitations, certifications, oaths, affirmations and affidavits are taught. NC Notaries must have a high school diploma or GED; must be at least 18 years old; read, write, and speak English; have no felony convictions; and successfully complete this approved notary course.

Additional costs include: commission fee to Secretary of State, $50; swearing in at the courthouse, $10; required textbook purchased from bookstore (cost varies); notary seal (cost varies). Prepayment of tuition and purchase of the Notary Manual prior to class is required.

Please note that your Notary Manual must be purchased from the RCC Bookstore before 3:00 p.m. on the Friday before class begins. If you cannot come to the RCC Bookstore to purchase your book in person, please allow time for the book to be shipped to you from the RCC Bookstore. Additional shipping and handling charges will apply.

Prepayment of tuition and purchase of the Notary manual prior to class is required.

Students must bring their government-issued ID to class.

Payroll Accounting

ACC 7112

This course covers federal and state laws pertaining to wages, payroll taxes, payroll tax forms, and journal and general ledger transactions. Emphasis is placed on computing wages; calculating Social Security, income, and unemployment taxes; preparing appropriate payroll tax forms; and journalizing/posting transactions. Upon completion, students should be able to analyze data, make appropriate computations, complete forms, and prepare accounting entries using appropriate technology. This course is instructor-led and delivered online. Prepayment of tuition is required.

QuickBooks for Beginners

Learn the basic financial principles and procedures needed to manage a small to mid-size business utilizing the accounting software program, QuickBooks. This course is intended for those who are new to QuickBooks as well as those who have utilized earlier versions.

  • Class will meet face-to-face one night a week and a portion of the coursework will be delivered online. Prepayment of tuition and purchase of course materials are required.

Substance Abuse

This course is a study of substance abuse in our society. Topics include the history and classifications of drug abuse and the social, physical, and psychological impact of drug abuse. Upon completion, students should be able to identify various types of drugs, their effects on human behavior and society, and treatment modalities. This is a HyFlex course. Class will meet face-to-face two days per week and be streamed on Zoom. Course is also delivered online. Students can choose which way they would like to attend class. Windows 11 Fundamentals

This course introduces students to the new Windows 11 operating system. Students will learn topics such as how to get started, customize Windows settings, manage files and folders, use and download apps, install devices, complete a system back up, and more. The class will also focus on key differences between Windows 10 and Windows 11. This course is instructor-led and delivered on campus. Prepayment of tuition is required.
