Rockingham Community College is offering a wide range of continuing education, workforce training, and adult learning courses starting in late March, April and May, designed to help you build new skills, advance your career, or explore a new hobby. Welding – Basic Processes: 8-9:40 a.m. Mondays-Tuesdays and 8-11:32 a.m. Wednesdays-Thursdays, May 28-July 21, RCC. This beginner’s course introduces basic welding and cutting skills. Emphasis is placed on welding beads applied with gases, mild steel fillers, and electrodes and the capillary action of solder. Upon completion, students should be able to set up welding and oxy0fuel equipment and perform basic welding, brazing, and soldering processes. Cost: $133, but ask about a scholarship.

Welding – GTAW (tig) Plate: 12:30-4 p.m. Mondays-Thursdays, May 28-July 21, RCC. This course introduces metal arc welding and flux core arc welding processes.  Topics include equipment setup and fillet and groove welds with emphasis on the application of GMAW and FCAW electrodes on carbon steel plate.  Upon completion, students should be able to perform fillet welds on carbon steel with prescribed electrodes in the flat, horizontal, and overhead positions. Cost: $192, but ask about a scholarship.

Mechatronics Fundamentals: 10 a.m.-2:40 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays, May 26-July 23, RCC. Learn the basics of modern automated systems used in today’s manufacturing industry. This course introduces how mechanical, electrical, electronic, robotic, and computer technologies work together, including hands‑on experience with Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs). You’ll walk away understanding key system components, how they interact, and how to troubleshoot common issues. Cost: $192, but ask about a scholarship.

Mechatronics Level 2: 5-9 p.m. Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, May 26-July 16, RCC, plus online. Advance your automation skills with this hands‑on Industry 4.0 course. You’ll learn to configure Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES), apply robotic safety practices, and program complex automated processes using PLCs, sensors, and electro‑pneumatic systems. This class prepares you to troubleshoot, optimize, and manage smart manufacturing systems—ideal for technicians ready to step into more advanced, integrated automation roles. Cost: $192, but ask about a scholarship.

Computer Basics: 9 a.m.-noon Fridays, April 3-24, or 5:30-8:30 p.m., or Tuesdays, April 7-May 12, RCC. Develop computer skills essential for success in today’s technology-driven workplace. Course covers the basic functions of Microsoft Word and Excel, emailing, internet navigation, file organization, uploads/downloads, and resources for keyboarding skills. Cost: $70, but is waived for most students.

Fusion360 & 3D Printing Basics: 5:30-7:30 p.m. Thursdays, May 28-July 16, RCC. Learn how to turn your ideas into real objects using Autodesk Fusion360 and modern 3D printers. This beginner‑friendly course teaches you to design simple 3D models, prepare them for fabrication, and print your creations using Bambu Labs printers. You’ll also get an introduction to CAD/CAM workflows for CNC tools like plasma cutters and mills—perfect for anyone curious about digital design or making things from scratch. Cost: $74.

Spreadsheet: May 28-July 21 online. Learn basic spreadsheet design and development. Topics include writing formulas, using functions, enhancing spreadsheets, creating charts, and printing. Cost: $190.

CPR: 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday, April 25 or Friday, May 8, RCC. Learn to recognize an emergency or signs of heart attack, care for choking victims, rescue breathing and CPR. Introduces defibrillator. Course completion yields an American Heart Association/Basic Life Support recognition card valid for two years. Cost: $60. Info: 336-342-4261, ext. 2602.

First Aid: 2-5 p.m. Saturday, April 25, RCC. Learn critical skills to respond to and manage an emergency in the first few minutes until EMS arrives. Learn how to treat bleeding, sprains, broken bones, shock and more. Course completion yields an American Heart Association First Aid recognition card valid for two years. Cost: $32. Nurse Aide I: 5:30-9:30 p.m. Mondays-Thursdays, May 19-July 21, RCC plus online. Learn about a career as a certified nurse aide. The program is a 168-hour course that takes 8-12 weeks to complete. Many individuals use the program as a precursor to the Associate Degree Nursing program or to gain employment within the medical field. Documentation required prior to registration. Cost: $236 tuition plus additional fees for a total of $700. Ask about a scholarship.

Phlebotomy students

Phlebotomy: 8-11 a.m. Saturdays, May 2-Aug. 22, RCC plus online and clinicals. Learn theory and gain clinical experience needed for the proper collection of blood and other specimens used for diagnostic testing. Students are required to complete 100 clinical hours. Upon completion, students may be eligible for national certification as a phlebotomy technician with the American Society for Clinical Pathology. Cost: $234 tuition plus additional fees for a total of $675. Ask about a scholarship.

Short-Term Healthcare Certifications: RCC continuously offers healthcare programs such as EMT, EKG Technician, Central Sterile Processing, Dialysis Technician, Medical Assisting, Medication Aide, Nurse Aide I, Paramedic, Pharmacy Technician, and Phlebotomy. DMV Dealer License: 6-9 p.m. Monday-Thursday, May 26-29, online live. This course meets the 12-hour training requirement for individuals seeking an initial Used Motor Vehicle Dealer’s License. Content includes an in-depth review of North Carolina motor vehicle dealer rules, regulations, and application requirements. Students will be introduced to the forms and other required documentation for motor vehicle transactions as well as audit procedures conducted by the NCDMV. Cost: $71.

Electronic Notary Public: 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday, April 11, RCC. This 4-hour course prepares a current North Carolina Notary Public to take the examination to become qualified to notarize documents electronically. Personal appearance by the principal is still required in electronic notarization. You must already be a commissioned Notary Public in order to take this course. Cost: $74.

Employability Lab: May 11-Aug. 7, RCC. Schedule lab time between 8 a.m. and 9 p.m. any day of the week and obtain help from instructors with job applications, job searches, writing resumes and cover letters, and more. Cost: $70, but waived for most students.

Notary Public: 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday, March 21, April 11 or May 2, RCC. Learn the qualifications of the notary public office and requirements for attestation, fees, general powers and limitations, certifications, oaths, affirmations and affidavits. Purchase of Notary manual is required. Cost: $74.

Notary Public Online: 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday, April 18. This class has a mandatory Zoom meeting the day before which students must attend with their camera on. Students also must log in to Moodle on Friday prior to the class to complete paperwork and prepare for the Zoom session. Learn the qualifications of the notary public office and requirements for attestation, fees, general powers and limitations, certifications, oaths, affirmations and affidavits. Purchase of Notary manual is required. Cost: $74.

Painting – Carolina Seagulls: 1-4 p.m. Wednesdays, March 25-May 13, RCC. This is a unique acrylic painting course, offering an up‑close, detail-rich perspective of two seagulls against a deep ocean backdrop — perfect for painters eager to try a fresh take on seascapes. Cost: $73

Fine Points of Furniture Construction: 8 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays, May 19-Aug. 6, RCC’s Center for Creative Woodworking in downtown Reidsville. Learn the heritage art of woodworking at an advanced level. Course includes discussion on history and trends, practice, and information to build and supply a studio. Prerequisite: Fundamentals of Woodworking. Cost: $212 plus purchase of wood.
