Barry Dodson Appointed Trustee
Aug 4, 2026Rockingham Community College is pleased to announce the appointment of Barry Z. Dodson to its Board of Trustees. Dodson was appointed by the Rockingham County Board of Commissioners in 2026 and will serve a term that expires June 30, 2027.
A longtime business leader, certified public accountant, and community advocate, Dodson brings decades of leadership experience and a lifelong connection to RCC. A native of Sandy Ridge in Stokes County, he attended Rockingham Community College from 1967 to 1969 before transferring to High Point College (now High Point University), where he earned degrees in economics and accounting.
“Rockingham Community College played an important role in my educational journey,” said Dodson. “It was affordable, close to home, and provided a strong foundation for my future. I believe community colleges are vital to the future of our state because they offer accessible, hands-on education that prepares students for careers and meets the workforce needs of our communities.”
Dodson is a partner with Dodson, Shelton & Nelson, P.A., and has served clients across a wide range of industries throughout his more than five decades in public accounting. He has also held numerous leadership positions, including chairman of FNB Bank for 20 years and service on the Golden LEAF Foundation Board, the North Carolina Education Lottery, the North Carolina Hospital Authority, and the High Point University Board of Visitors.
His commitment to community service includes serving as a trustee for Moses Cone and Annie Penn hospitals for 30 years, membership on the Rockingham County Library Board, participation as a charter member of the Committee of 100-Rockingham County, and service as a trustee, deacon, and Sunday School teacher at First Baptist Church of Madison. He is also a 32° Mason and Shriner.
Dodson is no stranger to RCC leadership. Over the years, he has served on the RCC Foundation Board and previously chaired the Foundation, helping advance the college’s mission and strengthen community support for its students and programs.
Dodson said he looks forward to helping the college remain responsive to workforce and community needs.
“I think the board helps provide direction from the community and offers valuable insight into where jobs are needed,” he said. “Rockingham Community College has always benefited from strong leadership, and I’m honored to have the opportunity to serve.”
The Rockingham Community College Board of Trustees is responsible for providing governance, oversight, and strategic leadership for the college, helping ensure RCC continues to fulfill its mission of education, workforce development, and community service.
