WENTWORTH – Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the restrictions that have been placed on community colleges and organizations throughout North Carolina, it is with regret that Rockingham Community College’s May 8 commencement ceremony must be postponed until July 23, pending the mitigation of these external restrictions.
RCC’s summer commencement was already scheduled for 10 a.m. July 23, so the spring and summer commencement ceremonies will be held together.
Students who complete all graduation requirements in May will still be May graduates for the purposes of transcripts and diplomas. College administrators are discussing ways to distribute diplomas to students who may choose not to participate in the July 23 ceremony. Details will be forthcoming.
“Regrettably, most universities and colleges are having to make this decision,” said RCC President Dr. Mark Kinlaw. “We will continue to stay in touch with students to inform them of the latest developments regarding commencement.”
In the meantime, online classes started Monday, March 23, as students continue to pursue the education they began for the spring semester. Summer enrollment also continues, through May 18, with many online offerings, including courses whose credits can transfer to a four-year university. Fall enrollment opens April 8.
