Cosmetology I and II
COS 3201
This two-year program provides English- and Spanish-speaking students with hands-on training in a simulated salon environment. Course work includes instructions in all phases of professional imaging, hair design, chemical processes, skin care, nail care, multi-cultural practices, business/computer principles, product knowledge, and other selected topics.
The program consists of two sessions, which prepare students for the State Board of Cosmetic Arts exam at 1,200 hours for an Apprentice license, or Full license at 1,500 hours.
There is a required orientation for all students to learn about textbooks, kits, uniforms, and the program schedule.
RCC also offers an associate degree, a diploma, and a certificate in Cosmetology.
In addition to tuition, students are required to purchase text books and a Cosmetology Kit for about $1,500 total. Students must also purchase two sets of solid black or solid white scrub uniforms at an estimated cost of $35 each, and malpractice insurance at $32 per year.

Este programa de dos años brinda a los estudiantes de habla inglesa y española capacitación práctica en un ambiente de salón simulado. El trabajo del curso incluye instrucciones en todas las fases de la imagen profesional, diseño del cabello, procesos químicos, cuidado de la piel, cuidado de las uñas, prácticas multiculturales, principios comerciales/informáticos, conocimiento de productos y otros temas seleccionados. El programa consta de dos sesiones, que preparan a los estudiantes para el examen de la Junta Estatal de Artes Cosméticas de 1200 horas para una licencia de aprendiz o una licencia completa de 1500 horas. Hay una orientación obligatoria para que todos los estudiantes aprendan sobre los libros de texto, los kits, los uniformes y el horario del programa.
RCC también ofrece un título asociado, un diploma y un certificado en Cosmetología.

Manicurist
COS 3101
This comprehensive course provides instruction and clinical practice in manicuring, nail building (application and maintenance of artificial nails), and pedicuring. Course content includes nail anatomy, disorders of nails, and irregularities of nails; theory and salesmanship as it relates to manicuring; actual practice in manicuring; and arm, hand, and foot massage. Manicurist students must complete 300 hours in an approved beauty school or college before applying to the State Board of Cosmetic Arts for examination. Students enrolled only in manicuring shall only perform services directly relating to the prescribed course in manicuring.
In addition to tuition, cosmetology students are required to purchase text books and a Cosmetology Kit $900. Students must also purchase two sets of solid Navy-Blue scrub uniforms at an estimated cost of $35 each, and malpractice insurance at $32 per year.
Please note: this is a comprehensive course to provide training for those interested in becoming registered manicurists only and not desiring to become licensed cosmetologists.

Natural Hair Care Specialist
COS 3104
This 300-hour program is designed to teach styling techniques such as BRAIDING, TWISTING, EXTENDING AND LOCKING NATURAL HAIR without the use of chemicals such as perms/relaxers and hair color. After completing the course, the students will be able to sit for the North Carolina State Board of Cosmetic Arts Exam to become a licensed Natural Hair Care Specialist.
The program provides instruction and clinical practice in natural hair care. The course content includes:
- Sanitation
- Bacteriology
- Disinfection
- First Aid
- Shampooing
- Draping
- Anatomy
- Disorders of the hair and scalp
- Client consultation
As part of the program students will develop skills during clinic hours.
Natural Hair Care students must complete the required hours and competencies before applying to the State Board of Cosmetic Arts for exam.
In addition to tuition, there is a cost of approximately $800 for a kit and textbooks.
