Creative Arts
Intermediate Woodworking: 5:45-9:15 p.m. Thursdays, Sept. 2-Nov. 18, RCC’s Center for Creative Woodworking. This is a continuation of the Fundamentals of Woodworking course. Cost: $145.
Business and Computer Technologies
Computer Programming: 6-8 p.m. Thursdays, Sept. 2-Dec. 9, online. This course is designed to introduce students to aspects of developing a computer program. Students will analyze problems, create pseudo code and flow charts, and ultimately create a functioning program to solve those problems. Students will learn to correct and execute programs, apply effective programming techniques to prepare business reports, and create and maintain data files. Students do not need a strong technical or math background to succeed in this course. Coursework will be delivered online and class will meet virtually one night. This course is eligible for the Eagle Train and Gain scholarship. Cost: $180.
Computer Basics: 9 a.m.-noon Fridays, Sept. 3-24, RCC. Develop computer skills essential for success in today’s technology-driven workplace. Computer training: Basic function of Microsoft Word & Excel, emailing, internet navigation, file organization, uploads/downloads, and resources for keyboarding skills. As authorized by G.S. 115D-5(b)(13), students may be eligible for a registration fee waiver if the student (1) is unemployed, (2) has received notification of a pending layoff, (3) is working and is eligible for the Federal Earned Income Tax Credit (FEITC), or (4) is working and earning wages at or below 200% of the federal poverty guidelines. Accounting Basics: Sept. 7-Nov. 15, online. Learn the fundamentals of financial accounting concepts for students seeking a basic understanding of terminology and principles. Topics include the accounting cycle, journal entries, T-accounts, adjusting entries, and financial accounting statements. Upon completion, students should have a practical understanding of basic accounting principles, transactions, and operations. Cost: $125.
QuickBooks for Beginners: 6-8 p.m. Tuesdays, Sept. 14-Oct. 26, RCC and online. Learn the basic financial principles and procedures needed to manage a small to mid-size business utilizing accounting software. This course is intended for those who are new to QuickBooks or who have utilized earlier versions. Class will meet face-to-face one night a week and some coursework is online. Cost: $125.
Healthcare
CPR: 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Friday, Sept. 10 or Saturday, Sept. 25, RCC. Learn to recognize an emergency or signs of heart attack, care for choking victims, rescue breathing and CPR. Introduces defibrillator. eLearning CPR Skills Practice and Testing: Sept. 13-17, RCC. Are you seeking an alternative to classroom training or wishing to renew an existing AHA certification? Schedule a practice session prior to taking the online cognitive portion of the certification test. Then, attend a hands-on skills practice and testing session with a certified AHA instructor. Vehicle Safety Inspection: 5-9 p.m. Sept. 13-14, RCC. Learn the proper procedures for conducting vehicle safety inspections and operating a safety inspection station. Cost: $78.
OBD/IM Emissions Training: 5-9 p.m. Monday and Tuesday, Sept. 20-21, RCC. This course prepares auto technicians and service personnel to be safety and emissions inspectors for motor vehicles. It includes regulations and test inspection procedures. Learn to inspect a vehicle and gain skills to pass the qualification exams for certification as a safety and emissions inspector at a licensed inspection station. Cost: $75.
