Retirees’ scholarship becomes endowed
Jul 2, 2025Lucille Blankenship stopped by Rockingham Community College on July 2 to sign a scholarship agreement from the RCC Retired Faculty/Staff Association.

The scholarship was already established at RCC, but has now reached endowment status. This occurs when a scholarship account reaches at least $18,000. This particular scholarship has now reached $18,078.
Becoming endowed means the scholarship will live on forever, with 75% of the interest and dividends given as a scholarship each year, and the remaining 25% being returned to the principle.
The scholarship is open to any student at RCC who is pursuing a certificate, diploma, degree, or workforce credential. The student must be a United States citizen and a Rockingham County resident. The student must have at least a 2.0 cumulative grade-point average.
This endowment was made possible by donations from retired faculty and staff members as a way to support the college they worked hard to make successful.
RCC’s Financial Aid Office will select the scholarship recipients through an established award process. The scholarship is awarded after federal and state grants are awarded to the student.
The scholarship is managed by the RCC Foundation.
