RCC ‘adopts’ Haywood CC
Nov 18, 2024Rockingham Community College continues to provide ways for its employees, students – and the community – to help with Hurricane Helene recovery efforts in Western North Carolina.
In early October, RCC collected supplies to send to the affected area.
Now, the N.C. Community College President’s Association has organized a statewide effort for campus communities to help fellow colleges that were hit hard.
RCC has joined six other colleges – Alamance, Beaufort County, Forsyth, Guilford Tech, Martin, and Randolph – to “adopt” Haywood Community College to help its folks with recovery.
“This is an opportunity for us to come together to support our friends and neighbors at Haywood Community College. As we know, Hurricane Helene hit Western North Carolina hard, causing severe flooding and unimaginable losses for some of our colleagues and their students,” said RCC President Dr. Mark O. Kinlaw.
“Many Haywood employees and students have experienced severe damage, and a few have lost everything. This is our chance to show our support, not only for them as colleagues but as part of our community college family,” he said.
“I am incredibly proud of all we have done to support our friends and neighbors in the West already. I have heard from many faculty, staff, and students, expressing a desire to do even more if needed. Your compassion and eagerness to help speak volumes about who we are as a community within North Carolina’s Community College System,” he continued.
“We are committed to doing everything we can to help. Every dollar we raise will go toward providing relief to Haywood employees who need urgent aid and to students who are struggling in the aftermath of this storm,” Kinlaw said. “This is our way of offering a helping hand to lift them up as they begin the journey of rebuilding.”
This campaign to assist Haywood CC employees and students impacted by the hurricane will run through Nov. 22.

Together, we can help our colleagues, and their students find hope and stability again.”
