If you are interested in beginning a new career or looking for a new job, improving your computer skills, becoming a better employee, or looking for a new hobby, Rockingham Community College offers a variety of short-term courses designed to meet your needs. eNotary: Saturday, May 11, RCC. This 4-hour eNotary course prepares a currently commissioned North Carolina Notary Public to take the examination to become qualified to notarize documents electronically. Personal appearance by the principal is still required in electronic notarization. Cost: $70

Employability Lab: May 16-Aug. 8, RCC. Schedule lab time between 8 a.m. and 9 p.m. any day of the week and obtain help from instructors with job applications, job searches, writing resumes and cover letters, and more. Cost: $70, but waived for most students.

Electronics Technician, Basic Electricity: 8-11 a.m. Mondays-Wednesdays, May 16-Aug. 14, RCC. Gain the knowledge and skills required to work safely and effectively with electricity. Lab work enables students to build, test, and troubleshoot AC/DC circuits and examine the operating voltages and currents related to proper circuit operation. Technicians will use various instruments to make circuit measurements and calculations. Successful students will pass 3 industry-recognized credential exams: Industry 4.0 Fundamentals, Electricity DC Fundamentals, and Electricity AC Fundamentals. Cost: $133.

Cabinetmaking: 6-9 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays, May 20-Sept. 23, Freeman’s Woodcrafters in Eden. Learn the fundamental techniques of cabinetmaking; the difference between store-bought and custom cabinets; proper selection of wood, materials, tools and finishes; how to plan, blueprint and build your own small case good; understand installation; and estimate project costs. Recent student projects have included shelving units, bookcases, vanities, sofa and coffee tables, entrance doors, and more. Cost: $202 plus materials.

Digital Marketing Bootcamp: May 21-Aug. 27, online. Learn how to deploy a variety of digital and social media tools to market a business, the purpose and best audiences on social media platforms, techniques for pushing out content with high success rates, search engine optimization, data analytics and reporting, and more. Cost: $185, but ask about scholarships.

Basic Welding Processes: 8-11:55 a.m. Tuesdays-Wednesdays, May 22-July 24, RCC. This beginner’s course introduces basic welding and cutting skills. Emphasis is placed on welding beads applied with gases, mild steel fillers, and electrodes and the capillary action of solder. Upon completion, students should be able to set up welding and oxy0fuel equipment and perform basic welding, brazing, and soldering processes. Cost: $192, but ask about scholarships.

Basic MIG Welding: 8-11:55 a.m. Tuesdays-Wednesdays, May 22-July 24, RCC. This 8-week program introduces gas metal arc welding and flux core arc welding processes. Topics include equipment set up and fillet and grove weld with emphasis on application of GMAW and FCAW electrodes on steel plate, as well as basic welding measurement and print reading. Gain the knowledge to seek employment as an entry- level MIG welder, or continue into the RCC Welding Technology program. Cost: $192, but ask about scholarships.

Exploring Clay: 1-4 p.m. or 5-8 p.m. Wednesdays, May 22-July 17, or 5-8 p.m. Mondays, June 3-July 15, RCC. Learn to design and make pottery using a potter’s wheel and hand-building techniques in this 24-hour course. All skill levels welcome. Clay, glaze materials and firings provided. Cost: $123.

CPR: 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday, May 25 or June 7, RCC. Learn to recognize an emergency or signs of heart attack, care for choking victims, rescue breathing and CPR. Introduces defibrillator. Course completion yields an American Heart Association/Basic Life Support recognition card valid for two years. Cost: $55. Info: 336-342-4261, ext. 2602.

Painting on a Black Canvas: 1-4 p.m. Wednesdays, May 29-July 17, RCC. Black canvas provides a dramatic background for showcasing your colors and scene. Any level of painter welcome. Supply list: Basic acrylic paints and brushes, 16×20 black canvas (purchased black canvas, not painted black), paper plates and towels, water container, plastic table cover. Cost: $73.

Dialysis Technology: 5:15-7:15 p.m. Thursdays plus online, June 3-July 25, RCC. Lecture, lab, and clinical activities teach the theoretical, technical, and clinical skills needed to maintain equipment and provide patient care to those being treated for chronic renal diseases. Successful completion of this course will prepare the individual for employment as a dialysis technician in hospitals, renal dialysis facilities, and clinics. After one year of work experience, individuals may be eligible to sit for national certification as a Clinical Hemodialysis Technician. Cost: $192, but ask about the Eagle Train & Gain Scholarship!

Vehicle Safety Inspection: 5-9 p.m. Monday and Tuesday, June 3-4, RCC. Learn the proper procedures for conducting vehicle safety inspections and operating a safety inspection station. Cost: $81.

Computer Basics: 5:50-8:30 p.m. Tuesdays, June 4-25 or 9 a.m.-noon Fridays, June 7-28, RCC. Develop computer skills essential for success in today’s technology-driven workplace. Course covers the basic functions of Microsoft Word and Excel, emailing, internet navigation, file organization, uploads/downloads, and resources for keyboarding skills. Cost: $70, but is waived for most students.

Fine Points of Furniture Construction: 8 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays, June 4-Aug. 13. Learn the heritage art of woodworking at an advanced level. Coursework includes discussion on the history, trends, and practice of the art and information to build and supply appropriate studios. Safety equipment is required (safety glasses, hearing protection, etc.). Students need wood for projects, which they learned about in the pre-requisite Fundamentals of Woodworking course. Cost: $202.

Cardiovascular Technician: 1-5 p.m. Thursdays plus online, June 6-July 25, RCC. Prepare to become a certified EKG technician/monitor. Learn the anatomy and physiology of the heart, principles of EKG, dysrhythmia recognition of sinus, junctional/atrial rhythms, heart blocks and bundle branches and ventricular ectopy rhythms. Skills include operating EKG equipment, running and mounting strips as well as reading and interpreting 22 types of cardiac lead tracings produced from 12 and five lead monitors and to understand the basics of capnography as it relates to heart function. Cost: $192, but ask about scholarships.

OBD/IM Emissions Training: 5-9 p.m. Monday and Tuesday, June 10-11, RCC. This course prepares auto technicians and service personnel to be safety and emissions inspectors for motor vehicles. It includes regulations and test inspection procedures. Learn to inspect a vehicle and gain skills to pass the qualification exams for certification as a safety and emissions inspector at a licensed inspection station. Cost: $78.

Carpentry – Core Skills: 6-9 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays, June 11-Oct. 8, off campus. This course provides instruction related to core skills used by carpenters in residential and commercial settings. Topics include safety, hand/power tool use, site preparation, measurement and layout, footings and foundations, construction framing, and other related topics. Upon completion, students should be able to construct, erect, install, or repair structures and fixtures made of wood, such as concrete forms; building frameworks, including partitions, joists, studding, and rafters; wood stairways, window and door frames, and hardwood floors. Cost: $202, but ask about scholarships.

First Aid: 2-5 p.m. Saturday, June 22, RCC. Learn critical skills to respond to and manage an emergency in the first few minutes until EMS arrives. Learn how to treat bleeding, sprains, broken bones, shock and more. Course completion yields an American Heart Association First Aid recognition card valid for two years. Cost: $35. Intro to Kayaking for Women: 5:45-8 p.m. Thursday, June 27, at local lake. Paddle with new confidence and ease as we teach you basic strokes and maneuvers to help you have more fun paddling and to prevent injury. We start from the beginning, how to get in and out with less chance for capsizing, how to handle the boat, seating and foot adjustment, paddle grip, forward, reverse and side strokes instruction and practice. Two additional levels offered in July. No experience necessary. Cost: $68.

Notary: 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Saturday, June 29, RCC. Learn the qualifications of the notary public office and requirements for attestation, fees, general powers and limitations, certifications, oaths, affirmations and affidavits. Purchase of Notary manual is required. Cost: $74.
