Rockingham Community College is offering several continuing education courses that start in the next few weeks:

Computer Basics: 9 a.m.-noon Fridays, March 8-29, RCC. Develop computer skills essential for success in today’s technology-driven workplace. Course covers the basic functions of Microsoft Word and Excel, emailing, internet navigation, file organization, uploads and downloads, and resources for keyboarding skills. Cost: $70, but is waived for most students.

CPR: 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Friday, March 8 or April 12, or Saturday, March 23 or April 27, RCC. Learn to recognize an emergency or signs of heart attack, care for choking victims, rescue breathing and CPR. Introduces defibrillator. Earn a two-year American Heart Association/Basic Life Support card. Cost: $55. Info: 336-342-4261, ext. 2602.

Painting and Underwater Seascape: 1-4 p.m. Mondays, March 13-May 1, RCC. Paint an underwater scene of the creatures and beauty of the ocean. Supplies needed: Canvas, basic acrylic paint colors, basic brushes, water container, paper towels, paper plates, and table cover. Cost: $73.

LinkedIn for Employment: 3-5 p.m. Thursdays, March 14-April 4, RCC. This course is designed to assist unemployed professionals or professionals seeking to improve their employment status with the hottest networking tool available today. Find out what LinkedIn is, how it is used, and how it can assist in employment opportunities. Cost: $70, but ask about a fee waiver.

Exploring Ceramics 1-4 p.m. or 5-8 p.m. Mondays, March 18-May 6, or Wednesdays, March 13-May 1, RCC. Develop the skills needed to work with clay. Learn the techniques to make functional and decorative objects, using a potter’s wheel and hand-building techniques. All skill levels welcome. Clay, glaze materials and firings provided. Cost: $123.

Windows 11 Fundamentals: 3-5 p.m. Thursdays, March 14-April 4, RCC. Get started with the Windows 11 operating system. Topics include customizing settings, managing files and folders, using and downloading apps, installing devices, completing a system back up, and more. Cost: $74.

Notary: 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Saturday, March 9 or 23, or April 6 or 20, RCC. Learn the qualifications of the notary public office and requirements for attestation, fees, general powers and limitations, certifications, oaths, affirmations and affidavits. Purchase of Notary manual is required. Cost: $70.

DSS Income Maintenance Caseworker: 6-9 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays, March 25-May 15, RCC. This is phase 2 of the NC FAST program, after which students can gain certification and work for the NC Department of Social Services. Students must have successfully completed phase 1, Human Services Exploration. Cost: $125.

Electro-Mechanical Skills: 5:30-9 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays plus online coursework, April 11-June 12, RCC. Learn to install, use, maintain, and troubleshoot electro-mechanical drive components and systems. Upon completion of this course, students will be able to pass three industry-recognized credential exams: Fundamentals of Mechanical Systems, Advanced-Applied Mechanical Systems, and Applied Industrial Motor Controls. Cost: $225 ($195 registration + $35 for printed materials). Ask how we can help pay the registration cost.

First Aid: 2-5 p.m. Saturday, April 27, RCC. In this American Heart Association course, learn critical skills to respond to and manage an emergency in the first few minutes. Learn to treat bleeding, sprains, broken bones, shock, and more. Complete and receive an AHA First Aid card valid for two years. Cost: $35.
