Golf tournament raises $26k

May 29, 2025

The 35th annual RCC Foundation golf tournament on May 22 raised $26,645, through the efforts of the Foundation and major sponsor First National Bank.

Ninety-two golfers hit the Oak Hills Golf Club course that Thursday afternoon, with weather as great as everyone’s mood.

“I get so excited about seeing some of you that I’ve seen for more than 20 years at this golf tournament. Thank you for supporting the College,” said Amy Brown to the crowd. Brown is market manager for FNB’s Piedmont North Region, chair of the RCC Foundation Board, and member of the RCC Board of Trustees.

“What we do with this Foundation golf tournament is a big deal. All of the money goes to scholarships to help children and adults in our community. We’re so thankful for your participation and sponsorship every single year of this tournament,” Brown said.

“The Foundation is a great part of Rockingham Community College. We provide scholarships and grants to faculty and students. The money raised here goes 100% toward that,” said RCC Foundation Executive Director Paul Farrar.

Oak Hills Golf Club General Manager Keith Jennette welcomed everyone to the course on behalf of the owners and staff.

Grayson Whitt recognized special guest David Edwards, regional vice president for FNB, as well as Brown and a group of FNB volunteers. Whitt is a retired FNB vice president, a former RCC Foundation board member, and has been on the RCC Board of Trustees since 2003. He reviewed the rules, then the golfers hopped into their carts to head to their starting holes.

Prizes Awarded

Sam Coates and Tri-City Auto Group sponsored a hole-in-one prize of $25,000 toward a vehicle purchase, but luck was not with the golfers that day; however, several other awards were presented:

Closest to Pin awards went to Savannah Reynolds, Elizabeth Ferguson, and Grayson Whitt.

Ferguson also won Longest Drive.

Following the tournament, everyone gathered for dinner, where N.C. Sen. President Pro Tempore Phil Berger, N.C. Rep. Reece Pyrtle, and County Commissioner Chair Kevin Berger – who also sits on the RCC Foundation Board – stopped by for a quick visit.

“I want to thank everyone here for what you’re doing today for the RCC Foundation. The community college for this county and for this area is critically important, and support from folks like you really helps them do what needs to be done,” Sen. Berger said.
