Rockingham Community College offers a variety of law enforcement in-service training. These courses are for experienced law enforcement officers as well as new officers in the profession. Law enforcement in-service training is open to current sworn law enforcement officers. These courses are designed for officers serving in North Carolina.

Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) Training
This course is for law enforcement officers, EMS personnel, fire fighters, and other first responders. The course teaches skills to help improve communication, increase safety, and interact more effectively with individuals in crisis due to mental health, substance use disorder, or an intellectual/developmental disability.

Close Quarters Handgun Training
This course is for sworn law enforcement officers that would like to enhance their close quarters handgun skills. The course focusses on handgun operation and fundamentals when engaging at close distances. Must bring department issued duty handgun, spare magazines, duty gear to include belt, holster and mag pouch, eye and ear protection, ball cap, appropriate clothing and weather gear, and 250 rounds of handgun ammunition.

Close Quarters Rifle
This course is for sworn law enforcement officers that need patrol rifle training or a refresher course. The course focusses on operation, capabilities, ammunition, effective range, and safety. Must bring department issued rifle, duty handgun, spare magazines, duty gear to include belt, holster and mag pouch, eye and ear protection, ball cap, appropriate clothing and weather gear, 200 rounds of rifle ammunition, and 50 rounds of handgun ammunition.

Gunshot Wound/Trauma Care for LEO/Downed Officer Rescue
This course is for sworn law enforcement officers and is designed to introduce law enforcement personnel with tactics, techniques, and procedures associated with First Responder Trauma Care and Downed-Officer Rescue. Officers will receive training in the three phases of care, tourniquets and controlling severe bleeding, chest seals, shock and hypothermia prevention, tactical handgun and rifle techniques. Must bring department issued duty handgun, duty belt, 3 handgun magazines. If issued, bring department issued patrol rifle, 3 magazines, sling, and mag pouch. Ammunition needed is 150 rounds of handgun ammo (250 if handgun only) and 120 rounds of rifle ammo. Must also bring department issued body armor, helmet (if issued), eye/ear protection, ball cap, and appropriate clothing/weather gear.

Handgun Skills for Female Officers
This is a one day course that is a full day on the range, no classroom. The course is focused on the basics of handgun shooting with emphasis on safety and accuracy. The course is designed for shooters who may have trouble with the annual in-service qualification or officers who want or need refresher training. Must bring service handgun, three magazines, duty gear to include holster and mag pouch, hearing and eye protection, ball cap, rain gear, sun block, water, and 500 rounds of ammunition.

Law Enforcement K-9 Seminar
This course is for sworn law enforcement canine teams. The instructor is Mike Baker with Baker Canine Consulting and will allow handlers to work reality-based scenarios in addition to working on certification standards with the Law Enforcement Canine Association. There is no cost for sworn law enforcement canine teams to attend the seminar. LIDAR Operator
This course is for sworn law enforcement officers in North Carolina seeking certification to operate LIDAR in the State. Must be currently certified as a RADAR Operator or attending RADAR Operator training. Must have the current LIDAR manual. Must provide an approved LIDAR and vehicle for practice and testing. Thursday 8:00AM-7:00PM and state exam Friday 9:00AM-11:00AM. 100% attendance required.

LE Shotgun
This course if for sworn law enforcement officers that need basic shotgun training or a refresher course. The course focusses on operation, capabilities, ammunition types and ranges, and safety. Must bring department issued shotgun with sling, duty handgun and 3 spare magazines, duty gear to include belt, holster and mag pouch, eye and ear protection, ball cap, appropriate clothing and weather gear, 20 rounds of buckshot, 20 rounds of slugs, 75 rounds of bird shot (#7 1/2 or #8 shot), and 50 rounds of handgun ammunition.

Out of the Darkness
This course is for first responders and provides information regarding trauma, acute and chronic stress, financial well-being, shift work, depression, suicide, wellness, mental health, and ways to practice self-care with emphasis on these topics.

Patrol Rifle
This course if for sworn law enforcement officers that need patrol rifle training or a refresher course. The course focusses on operation, capabilities, ammunition types and ranges, and safety. Must bring department issued patrol rifle with sling, 3 magazines, duty handgun with 3 spare magazines, duty gear to include belt, holster and mag pouch, body armor, active shooter or “go bag”, eye and ear protection, ball cap, appropriate clothing and weather gear, 450 rounds of rifle ammunition, and 75 rounds of handgun ammunition. Class will start in the Advanced Technologies Bldg. Room 213 and then move to the Eden Range located at 212 Mebane Bridge Rd. Eden, NC.

Police Law Institute
This course is for sworn law enforcement officers involved with enforcement activities associated with search warrants, warrantless searches, interviews, eyewitness identification, and nontestimonial identification orders. Police Law Institute/ Legal Update
This course is for sworn law enforcement officers involved with enforcement activities associated with search warrants, warrantless searches, interviews, eyewitness identification, and nontestimonial identification orders that have taken PLI, but are in need of or desire an update. It is an update to the two week PLI class. Must bring the most recent edition of the Arrest, Search, and Investigation book by Robert L. Farb and the Red and Green case law books for PLI from the NCJA Bookstore. This is an NCJA certified class. 100% attendance required. Students must have attended the two week PLI class.

Search Warrant Preparation
This course is for sworn law enforcement officers involved with enforcement activities associated with search warrants and and nontestimonial identification orders. Upon completion of the course, officers will be able to draft a valid search warrant and lawfully execute the search warrant. Canine Law
This course is for sworn law enforcement officers who are canine handlers, work with or around canine teams, or supervise canine teams. The course covers use of force, legal issues facing canine handlers, common constitutional issues associated with the use of canines, and ways to limit civil liability. 100% attendance is required.
