Summer Enrollment: Registration continues for the summer term, for both new and returning students. Summer is a great time for university students to get some classes out of the way for less money, and transfer their credits to their university. It’s an easy process. The summer term is May 24-July 17. RCC is also launching four-week short sessions, May 24-June 20 and June 21-July 17. eLearning CPR Skills: 2-5 p.m. April 3-7. Is your AHA certification up for renewal, or are you seeking an alternative to classroom training? Students learn at their own pace in this online course, and undergo in-person, hands-on skills practice and testing to complete certification. Cost: $35.
Disney speaker series: 5:30-7:30 p.m. April 4, 11, and 18, RCC Auditorium, Advanced Technologies Building, 560 County Home Road, Wentworth. Join us for “If Disney Ran Your Business… Making the Customer Experience Magical Today,” presented by internationally known John Formica, “The Ex-Disney Guy.” He will share his incredible experiences, best practices and more. The no-cost series will also feature a Disney resort trip giveaway! Seating in RCC’s Advanced Technologies Building auditorium is limited to 200. Computer Basics: 9 a.m.-12 p.m. Tuesdays, April 4-25. Develop computer skills essential for success in today’s technology-driven workplace. Computer training: Basic function of Microsoft Word & Excel, email, internet navigation, file organization, uploads/downloads, and resources for keyboarding skills. Cost: $70, but most students can receive a tuition waiver.
Fall Enrollment: Registration for the fall semester opens for new students on April 5. The fall semester is Aug. 14-Dec. 13. There are also late-start classes that start Aug. 30, eight-week sessions Aug. 14-Oct. 9 and Oct. 16-Dec. 13, and a brand new four-week winter session, Nov. 20-Dec. 15. Employer Panel Discussion: 12:30-2 p.m. Wednesday, April 5, RCC Auditorium, Advanced Technologies Building, 560 County Home Road, Wentworth. Representatives from health, manufacturing, and government will discuss qualities they look for in employees, and interview strategies. Cost: free.
Easter Holiday: The RCC campus will be closed on Friday, April 7 in recognition of the Easter holiday.
Vehicle Safety Inspection: 5-9 p.m. April 10-11. Learn the proper procedures for conducting vehicle safety inspections and operating a safety inspection station. Cost: $78.
OBD/IM Emissions Training: 5-9 p.m. Monday and Tuesday, April 10-11. This course prepares auto technicians and service personnel to be safety and emissions inspectors for motor vehicles. It includes regulations and test inspection procedures. Learn to inspect a vehicle and gain skills to pass the qualification exams for certification as a safety and emissions inspector at a licensed inspection station. Cost: $75.
Job Fair Navigation: Tuesday, April 11, 12:30-1:30 p.m., RCC’s James Library, 315 Wrenn Memorial Road, Wentworth. Get ready for RCC’s April 18 job fair and learn to work it like a pro. RCC Career Development staff will have information on resumes, appropriate dress, networking, preparation, and career exploration, and will answer any questions you may have. Cost: free.
CPR: 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Friday, April 14 or Saturday, April 29. Learn to recognize an emergency or signs of heart attack, care for choking victims, rescue breathing and CPR. Introduces defibrillator. Course completion yields an American Heart Association/Basic Life Support recognition card valid for two years. Cost: $55.
Income Maintenance Caseworker: 6-9 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays, April 17-June 12. This NC FAST class is the second in a series of two classes offered through this statewide program. BOTH classes must be successfully completed in order to gain certification. The prerequisite for this class is “HRD-4000: Human Services Exploration: DSS Caseworker.” This certification series is for students who are interested in working for the N.C. Department of Social Services as an income maintenance caseworker. Students taking this class must be comfortable using computers. Cost: $125, but ask about RCC’s Eagle Train and Gain scholarship.
Job Fair: 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Tuesday, April 18, in the RCC Keys Gymnasium, 558 County Home Road, Wentworth. Nearly 50 employers with jobs in government, healthcare, manufacturing, and retail locations are already registered, and additional employers are expected. Event is free. Job seekers, just show up. Notary Public: 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Saturday, April 22, RCC. Students learn the requirements and qualifications of the notary public office. Prepayment and purchase of Notary Book 11th Edition required. Cost: $70.
First Aid: 2-5 p.m. Saturday, April 29. Learn critical skills to respond to and manage an emergency in the first few minutes until EMS arrives. Learn how to treat bleeding, sprains, broken bones, shock and more. Course completion yields an American Heart Association First Aid recognition card valid for two years. Cost: $35.
