Feb 14, 2017Homemade Music is back for the 19th year! Rockingham Community College’s Musicians’ Guild will present “Homemade Music” on Friday, Feb. 24th at 7 p.m. in the RCC auditorium.
Homemade Music is a concert to benefit the Rockingham County Chapter of Habitat for Humanity (HFH). All musicians volunteer their time, and all of the money collected goes to HFH.
The musical line-up the show promises to be a great. With a wide range of musical genres from Bluegrass to Gospel to Folk and Country, the music will provide entertainment for everyone.
Original songs written by Bryan “Songbear” Smith, who plays acoustic guitar and sings, will be performed. Joining Smith on the harmonica for this unique act is RCC’s own Keith Sigmon.
Hubert Lawson and the Bluegrass Country Boys will take the stage and electrify the crowd with their special brand of high-energy Bluegrass. They are definitely one of the most entertaining Bluegrass bands performing today.
The Madison/Mayodan Fellowship Choir under the leadership of Faye Webster will perform songs from their Christmas show singing a combination of Gospel and songs of the season. The choir started out as a continuing education class at RCC and has since grown to a membership of over 60. This promises to be an exciting presentation.
Ed Dodson and friends will be playing Bluegrass, folk, and Celtic tunes. Ed has performed in all 18 previous Homemade Music concerts. Ed and his friends always put on a great show.
The musical trio “Ironworks” brings together the varied talents of three seasoned performers. This group performs 19th and 20th century music drawn from traditions on both sides of the Atlantic. They interpret British and American folk melodies, Gaelic fiddle tunes, jazz standards from the 1930s through 1950s, and popular tunes from diverse composers including Bob Dylan, John Lennon and Paul McCartney, Paul Simon, Tom Waits, and Joni Mitchell. Joyce Crutchfield (mandolin and vocals), Lee Dodson (guitar and vocals), and Steven Smith (tenor banjo and guitar) make up “Ironworks.” Cumulatively the trio’s members have over 150 years of experience playing and performing. Joining the trio for Homemade Music are special guests Jesse Epperson (washtub bass) and Phil Atkins (bass clarinet). Expect to hear some exceptional and diverse music when these five musicians get together!
So bring out the whole family for an enjoyable night of great music by some of the best musicians this area has to offer and contribute to a most worthy cause.
Admission is free but a donation to Habitat For Humanity is appreciated.
